Well this was a fun one. Customer had a tune on his 2016 VW GTI and said the vehicle would not hold the power when accelerating even in higher gears. Below is a picture of his original dual mass flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate. You can see there's a decent amount of glaze on the flywheel. While the clutch disc had a fair amount of life left, but unfortunately it could not hold the power from the tune.
I'll be honest. Getting this transmission out and back in was a pain. More so getting it out than getting it back in. I guess if I followed the guide it would have been easier, but oh well, lol. I should have removed the radiator fan, but instead I ended up removing the ground cable, air induction pump bracket nuts, exhaust clamp, exhaust bracket, heat shield, and on the way back in the plastic front intercooler pipe.
In addition to replacing the flywheel/clutch kit we also installed a new slave cylinder from ECS Tuning (not pictured) to be able to hold the pressure.
Overall Impressions:
The clutch pedal pressure seems similar to stock feel and while we didn't do any hard pulls we're pretty confident this kit will hold the upgraded tune that's currently on the vehicle. Side note: This lightened flywheel does cause transmission gear chatter which is most audible at idle.
