We have some before and after photos of an intake valve carbon cleaning that was done on a 2016 VW GTI at 60,000 miles. We used walnut shells as media blasting material and manual scraping to clean the valves. As you can see the valves aren't shiny like we were hoping. We spent a lot of time trying to get the media blasting work properly, but it seemed as if every time we shot the walnuts it accumulated up in the valve area and wasn't being sucked out. Therefore we were basically walnut blasting the previous walnut shells. Instead we decided to use chemicals and scraping and this is the result. Upon further inspection of why the walnut shells were not being sucked out of the valve area we realized the vacuum cleaner we used had hardly any suction. It was a Craftsman 2HP 2 gallon wet/dry. When we do this job in the future we will get ourselves a higher suction vacuum cleaner.
